Dear Governor

This is the eight day sence I have been confined to my room & this morning for the first time I am dressed.

I have had an infernal hard time & have nearly coughed myself to death.

I intended to leave for Springfield to day but my Doctor says it will not do.

I know I am not fit for [illegible] but am anxious to return & see what is going on.

I have a few appointments next week to speak but of course shall not be able to fill them.

If I do not get apt before I may possibly go back

by way of Freeport & meet you there on Tuesday as I see you are to be there.
