Enclosed please

to find a letter which I have

written addressed to Genl Meigs

asking him to assign my broth-

er as Deput QM at Chicago

He stands high in the QM dept

So high that Gen Allen Chief

QM for the West at Louisville

has recommended it to Gen Meigs

& if Gen A could do as he wished

he would be assigned

at once. Gov Oglesby & Uncle

Jesse have both made the reccom-

mendation as has also Judge E. Trum-

ball-You can rely upon it that

he is all right. Gen Allen him-

self wants it done-Will you

do me the favor of signing the

enclosed letter to Gen Meigs & of for

warding it to him.
