consul to Leghorn, which

appointment leaves his

position as Sec'ty of Dakota

vacant. I am willing

to concede the appointment

of our Sec'ty to Gov. Yates.

The Gov. is entitled, from

long since in the public

affairs of the great state

of Ill. to your consider

ation. I hope you

will appoint the person

recommended by the

Gov. and I assure

you he will be

acceptable [again?]

friends in Dakota.
