with W. W. Barrett letter 1/18/66 Nashville Tennessee June 13 1865 Genl L Thomas Adjt Genl U.S.A. General I have the honor to represent that I was mustered into the United States Volunteer service as Capt of B Co 44th Ill Infty on the 13th day of Sept 1861: that I was mustered as Colonel of said Regiment the 1st day of January 1863. that my Regiment reenlisted as veterans the 1st of January 1864: that I was appointed Brig Genl by Brevet the 20th of May last to rank as such from the 13th day of March 1865: that I was actively engaged in the battles of Pine Ridge Ark. Chaplin Hills Ky. Stone River Tenn. Chickamauga Mipion Ridge and in the campaign in the summer of 1864 from Chattanooga to Atlanta my command

being at that time in the 1st Brig 2d Div 4th Corps. I was wounded at Stone River and Chickamauga. I respectfully request an appointment in the regular army with such rank as my service ability and the good of the service may warrant. I am General Very Respectfully Your Obt Srvat W W Barrett Brvt Brig Genl U.S.A.

only recommend him for an appointment in the regular army up to the rank of his present grade (signed) D. S. {Stanly?] Maj Genl
