in obtaining me promotion & hope

the time may come when I can

reciprocate-

I had the pleasure of reading

your oration deliver at Elgin July

4th & wish you to send me three or

four copies to send to some of my

Southern friends here. They need edu-

cating upon the question of free

universal suffrage & I know of no

better lesson for them to study than

this speech. I desire your photograph

with your own autograph
