Dear Sir
When I was at Springfield last Winter, I intended to make an application for a censorship. But things are in such confusion & it seemed doubtful whose men Lincoln's policy might be. I am shocked and is [illegible] in the matter. President Johnson men affirm is-is making many appointments to foreign countries & I have strength to make them stick. But have no friends at Cont [illegible] willing to help me. I [illegible] am much annoyed [illegible] per of application jin has to many of [illegible] in hand I will not make the trial. Hn Gov. please [illegible] frankly what you think of it & if favorable. I might like to leave the matter with you. If petitions will help. can you sign me. [illegible] mustring [illegible] because Bushnall is my particular friend you know & dont want to do anything to present my helping Bush when the [illegible]
comes to [illegible] or later. For now [illegible] will the congressional minds before long & I always go for my friends - [illegible] is my friend as Bushnall is [illegible].
