Gov Yates

Springfield Ills

Sir

My son Edwin C Lawson is in Capt Philips Company Col Logans Regiment. He is prompt, energetic, correct in habits, order & system prominent.

I have educated him for a business man & he is qualified for almost any business position. I think you will find him admirably qualified for a Quartermaster of his Regiment or a like position Any favors you may confer upon him will be received as an honor to myself

Your Respectfully

Z. B. Lawson

P.S. If you have any influence with the President, for heavens sake & the good of our country do not suffer John C. Fremont to be superseeded or press him to a resignation. If either is the case the west I fear is forever crippled. Great fears are felt in this locality & volunteering here is at an end until the public can have some assurance that he will continue in his present position. John C Fremont is a host

Yours & c

Z. B. Lawson
