Hon Richard Yates

Springfield Dear Sir.

John D. Platt of Warren was on yesterday nominated, & in due time will be elected, to the assembly from this County: I trust it will be no objection to him in your estimation that he is pledged in writing to me to give you his vote for "U S Senator" - The Convention was very harmonious, but there are a few individuals who feel as if there were some "unseen forces" somewhere that were playing the dickens with their well laid plans. Our whole County ticket is made up of names which were not on the slate that was made up months ago by the Gentleman who has been in the habit of arranging these things herein I should be glad if you would communicate with Judge Platt and will say that whether you do so or not his vote is for you if he lives and takes his seat.

Yours truly

E. A. Small.

Should you desire I will send the Judges letter to you in which he pledges himself to vote for you
