To the Medical Director

U S General Hospital

Rome Georgia

Dear Sir: I am informed that John H Senger(?) of Co B. 111th(?) Regt. Ills Vols. is now confirmed in your hospital with but little prospect of his immediate recovery, he having been in hospital, at various points, for near two years.

I would respectively and earnestly request that you examine him, and cause him to be transferred to U S Hospital at Camp Butler near this city, if possible. If not, to some Northern Hospital where he may be nearer his home and friends until he recovers his health.

Please give this case your special attention, and inform me of action taken.

Very Respectively Your Obedt Sen(?) Rich Yates Governor of Ills

U. S. Hospital Rome Ga Sept 19th 1864

Respectfully returned. I have carefully examined the within named man and find that he has recovered his health and will, I expect, rejoin his Regt. in a few days. Consequently he is not a proper subject for transfer.

Moreover I have no authority for transfering any men to northern hospitals.

J.(?) H. Grove(?) (?) in charge
