Dr Sir---I received yours of the 20 inst today. What I have done for you I have done from a sence of duty

I had a talk with our Representative on the 24. When I first talked with him on the subject I found him rather in favor of Washburn on a/c of what he has done toward getting the Arsenal at Rock Island.

After talking with him he admitted you had a better claim on the office than any

other man in the state and promised that he would suport you if he could do so without giving offence to Washburn

Our Rep., Jas Lloyd, is a very plain farmer about all he will do will be to vote He is strictly honest and conciencious but can be made to see things in different lights as influences are brot to bare. The influence of some good man after he gets to Springfield, I have no doubt, will secure him

Has seen Wood, who when he first saw him was rather inclined towards Washburn for his influence in getting the Arsenal at Rock Island. Lloyd is a plain farmer and will not do much of anything but vote A little influence can secure him all right
