Hon. Rich'd Yates

My Dear Sir:

Enclosed I send you the petition of our Legislative Assembly recommending Hon. Jesse K. Dubois for some position in the Cabinet. It has given me great gratification to serve you & him in this matter for the reason chiefly that you both signed my petition for Secretary of this Territory in 1860. You may not remember it. Nor is it probable that he will. An old schoolmate of mine Dr. M. W. Seaman of Shipman presented my case. I think through Mr. Palmer.

Seaman, of whom I have heard nothing for some time, is a man of great natural talent. I have watched the lists of ap-

pointments made by you as Governor with the hope that I should some time see his name chronicled as Surgeon or Assistant Surgeon. It would afford me infinite pleasure to be able to assist him. I place gratitude at the head of my list of virtues.

Be good enough to make my regards to "Pitt" if in Washington.

Faithfully

Your Friend

A.S. Paddock
