Dear Sir.

I have just returned from McLeansboro where I found a part of a company of good Union men organized and think they will report a full company in course of two weeks. (Wm Reavis Capt.) and they desire to be attached to my Regiment. Capt. Reavis tells me the company had been calculating to go into camp at Shawneetown, but had no particular regiment to be attached to.

I also learned at McLeansboro, that four companies were organized for Floyd Crouch's regiment, who has now gone to Springfield to get an appointment as Col. Crouch was among the number who were arrested last week, and taken to Shawneetown. I am told on good authority, that he is a member of the order of "K. G. C.'s" and is one of their leaders. A 'gentleman (Mr Moran of Chicago) who was in McLeansboro on business, stated to me yesterday, that one of Crouch's captains told him (Moran) the day before, that he would have no

d-d Lincolnite in his company, and would receive no one but those belonging to the "K. G. C's." Union men are under the necessity of being cautious in their movements. Capt. Reavis says he has been threatened for expressing union Sentiments. I find it impossible to send many men to camp until after election, which takes place next tuesday. I shall probably send three companies into Camp the last of next week, and other companies will follow soon.
