Gov. Richard Yates

Springfield Ills

My very dear Sir

Though expecting to see you here for some time, I have neither had the pleasure of your personal presence, nor have I received the favor of a note. It requires however no explanation on your part, knowing but too well how you are continually harassed. To day, I would respectfully urge upon you the acceptance of another Regiment of Infantry. Some of my friends here are very anxious to raise a Regiment of Infantry to be commanded by Capt. Clybourne. I have no doubt that the raising of the Regiment could be accomplished within say 6 weeks if you want. Kindly grant the authority to Col. Clybourne. If consistently you can authorize the raising of this Regiment you will greatly oblige me.

Very respectfully

Hoffmann
