To the Hon Richard Yates

Gov of Illinois

Dear Sir This day I have tendered my resignation as Capt of Com H 3rd Reg of Ills Vol Cav. The reasons why I tender my resignation is on account of an organic disease of the kidneys which our regimental surgeon Lamphier informs me will render me unable to perform my duty on horseback If there is any office in the army that will not require so much riding on horseback as Capt of a Cavalry Co I would be happy to accept it

Yours Fraternally
