To His Excellency Governor Yates

We the undersigned Officers of the 36th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers having learned that there is a Regiment of Volunteers to be organized in Kendall County beg leave to represent to your Excellency that Kendall County has more than a full Regiment of Volunteers in the service without a single Field officer from the County - Now, therefore, in consideration of the above facts, we beg leave to recommend to your Excellency Captain William P Pierce, of Lisbon, Kendall County as a suitable person for the appointment of Colonel to one of the new Regiments. Captain Pierc,e has been in the service, in the 36th Regiment, over one year. We know him to be a gentleman of honor, and integrity, as well as a thoroughly well Drilled soldier fully and peculiarly well quallified for the position of Colonel of a Regiment. Hopeing that you will find it compatible with your feelings, and consistent with the service to grant the above appointment - we remain your obedient Soldiers -
