Dear Sir Agt Gen Fuller when he was at Rockford last he gave me & Hampton P. Sloan & R P Blaisdell power to rais a company of Vollentiers but though deception & meanness of Sloan Blaisdell & myself did not get any office in the Co Mr Blaisdell said he saw you at Springfield now sir I wish to ask a favour of you to give me an appointment as Quarter master in the Quarter masters department or Commissary or something of the kind or a lieutenant in some Co I will go any where you say in the United States my age is the same as President Lincoln born in 1809 have lived twenty years in Illinois
in the days of Whigs I was a Clay Whig I was once comfortable as to the things of this world but now I am poor but I propose to try to help save this glorious Union from ruin I have good health I have one son in the glorious Illinois eleventh who has thanck God given a good account of himself he is as you know now at Cairo his name is Wesley J. Hudson Co D Capt Andrus you know was detailed to help Taylors battery at Donalson my son loded one of those guns fifty times in fifty four minutes he mowed down the sesesh like grass I was told so by Lieutenant Griffin who was thare now sir I would & he would be verry glad to have you help him by promotion if you thinck he dserves it I would refer you to Agt gen Fuller I am some acquainted with him please to write to me on the
receipt of this & you will oblige me verry much direct to Winnebago Depot Winnebago County Illinois
