Governor &C

Springfield Ills

Dear Sir

When I last wrote you, I spoke of the intention of my wife to bring two Illinois Soldiers from Bedloe's Island to our House until they had entirely recovered. I regret to say, than on making the necessary application to Dr Slone the Medical Director, he peremptorily refused, but only on the ground that he was positively prohibited under the regulations of the War Department from doing so.

One of them, a sergeant of the McClellan Dragoons is badly wounded through the foot, and it will be months before he is fit for service again even with the most skilful and carefuly nursing. It seems hard, that under the circumstances, he cannot be permitted to return home until he is fit for service.

Yours Truly

Geo M. Davis
