His Excellency

Richd Yates

Goveror of Ills:

Dr Governor -

Higher rises still the Star of Illinois.

God bless her hosts of noble men - And Chiefly him who called them forth and marshalled them for glorious deeds in behalf of human rights. And who, by living burning words inspire them with noble views and unconquerable wills.

It is well - Lt Gov. Hoffman is "getting his

hand in. Your seat is waiting yonder among the noble piers who are yet to be above all honored in history for the measures that shall make our nation glorious in the sight of Heaven and the world.

Governor, a noble people - will not forget its Worthy leaders.

I have been thro the hottest region of Bushwhackers - and go to [Nadena?] tomorrow - I hear of you - and speak of you wherever I go - We boys swear "by Yates."

Yours

With highest regard &

Great Obligation
