I take this opportunity to return you my sincere thanks for your kindness, also to ask another favor, that is if you feel free to. we are here three Illinois Regts with one Ohio Regt - the Col of which out ranks our Col a few days at present as Col Moore has no commission in pocket. we are willing to fight but do not want Ohio to have all the Glory We love Illinois next to the Union - now if you will call Gov Yates attention to the fact that if Col Robt S Moore Commission can be dated July 11th 1862, he Moore will out rank the Ohio Regt and then we will have an entire Illinois brigade - it is due to Illinois and to us - Col Moore authority for raising a regt was dated July 11th - I myself devoted all my time from the from the 19th day of July and spent four hundred dollars. it is all right but we want an Illinois brigade - our men and officers dislike to be rode over by Ohioans who are no better qualified than

our own men.

Our Regt is encamped three miles out from Louisville - in a healthy location. The people are extremely kind and show us every attention. we have a noble Regt - the better I get acquainted with Col Moore the more I think of him - he is a first rate officer the men a Learning to drill very fast. we have the name of being one of the best regts in the field for our experience. we are very well equipt and our labors are made lite by willing minds excuse this note it is longer than I intended to troubl with - if you can spare the time I would like to hear from you

I Remain

Truly Yours
