Illinois Central Rail Road Co.
GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE.
Chicago, Oct. 29th 1862
To His Excellancy
Francis A. Hoffman
Dear Sir: Your letter of the 23d inst, enclosing one from certain parties of Pana, is at hand.
The question of the loyalty of our Agent at Pana, has been raised on several occasions before, and I have had the strictest inquiry made, but have found nothing to justify the accusation.
I will again examine into this matter and if a reasonable cause of complaint exists, will remove him.
He performs all of his duties to this company, in the most prompt and satisfactory manner.
I am Sir
Very Respectfully Yours
W R Arthur
Genl Supt

Superint. Ill. C. R. R.

In reply to letter of 23d says charges of disloyalty have frequently been made before against the agent Sawyer at Pana and found frivolous. Will re-examine and discharge him if found disloyal.
(Re-encloses letter.)
