Springfield Ills.
Dec 4 1862
His Excellency
Richd Yates.
Governor of Ills.
Your favor of the 2nd inst. came to hand yesterday, I will take great pleasure in seconding your wish in regard to Lt William L Reynolds of the 17” Ill Regt. The plan contemplated for the attainments of the desired object, and which is the only practicable one, is to have him assigned to duty on my staff by Genl Grant, under instructions to report to me for that purpose. With a letter from you to Genl Grant, requesting such an order, endorsed with the expression of my approbation of the arrangement, it will doubtless be promptly made. Your suggestions, however, that the arrangement
should be defered until I take the field is eminently proper.
