Dear Sir

Continual absence and pressure of most important business have prevented my even seeing your letters - I supposed however that you had been promtly answered from the Adjt. Gen's Office, but find such is not the case - I have looked over the correspondence this morning - and convened with Adj. Gen, who will answer you fully - Be assured that I had no objection to your promotion to Colonelcy but Department at Washington have not affirmed Resignation of


Kellogg - & I understand declines to do so - I look for him daily - and some action will be taken as soon as he comes - In the mean time other appointments recommended by you will be made
