Hon Rich Yates
Worthy Sir
I wrote you as much as three weeks since in behalf of a Woman in this Community whose husband is in the Army, and as I have no answer I suspect it has been mislaid amid the busy rush attending the assembly of the Legislature. He has been in the Hospital 9 months and there has not been at any time a hope of his getting well (afflicted with sore eyes) all we want is instructions how to move to obtain his release; his wife was with him at one time but could not effect any thing. He should have been discharged 8 months since.
We know it does not rest with you but you or the Adgutant can instruct us. I do not propose to com
plain to those who have no power to amend the condition of things, but is sadening to look at things as they are, to use a vulgar phrase. the country is lousey with Soldiers lounging about home, and many of them cannot get a discharge. I sometimes begin to tremble in fear, that the government will go to Sticks. This Neighbor of whom I write is a Soldier of Co. H. 28th Reg Jinkin Barrow and is at Evansville Ind. Please write me.
Respectfully
H. S. Thomas
The Loyal are with you in you verry Able Message. Stand by the right and they will stand by you. Dont give an inch to the Traitors who are now assembled in the State house.
