Gov Yates

Dear Sir

I wish to return to the army. I was wounded at the battle of Stone River and discharged even before I had asked to be.

I carry two Secesh balls in my left hip but shall be able to take the field again if mounted. I can produce recommendations from competent officers acquainted with me that I am worthy and competent for a field officer. I have been in the thickest of three of the great battles of the day. Pea Ridge Perryville and Stone River and our old regiment (the 36th Ills) remains a wreck; its brave boys ly upon each of the above mentioned battlefields.

Should there be an opportunity to serve my Country in this or any

other capacity I am as ready as I was nearly two years since and should such a chanc offer I should be happy to furnish any recommendations desired until then I remain yours &c Wallace Benson
