To his Excellency Richard

Yates Governor of Illinois

Honoured Sir

Permit me to address you in behalf of Mrs Walker, the bearer of this letter. Her husband Conrad Walker enlisted in this place on the 2nd Aug. 1862, into the Hecker Regiment. Since that time he has been in the hospital upwards of 8 months and is still in the hospital. She is a poor lone woman, grieving that he should be sick and away from her so long.

I would respectfully pray your Excellency, that if he can be of no service to the country

that it may please your honor to grant him his discharge.

Trusting you will hear the prayer of this poor woman

I am Sir,

Your most obt Servant

James W. Ambrose
