To

Hon Abraham Lincoln

President of the United States

Washington D.C.

Sir,

I have the honor to recommend that Captain Lyman Bridges, of Bridges' Battery, Ills Light Artillery, be breveted Major, in accordance with act of Congress as per Genl Order War Dept 73 Art XII current series.

For gallant and merritorious conduct, during the battles of Dec 31st 1862, and Jany 2nd 1863, at "Stone River," and Sept 19th and 20th, 1863, at "Chicamauga."

Though wounded during the first day, of the first named battle, he remained upon the field, retaining his command throughout.

On the first day Sept 19th of the last named battle, his battery fought two of the enemys batteries, and drove both from the field, with heavy loss, after an action of three hours.

In the sanguinary contest, on the morning of Sept. 20th his battery behaved in the most creditable manner.

Capt Bridges is a thorough and accomplished officer, possessed of indomitable energy, and perseverance, and whose integrity and bravery is unquestioned.

He is, moreover, one of those officers, who entered the service at the first call for volunteers, and who has served his country in Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia, with honor to himself, and the state he represents.

I am,

Very Respfly

Your Obt Svt
