Head Quarters 1st Brig, 2nd Div. 14th A.C.
Chattanooga, October 8th 1863.
To the President of the United States,
Sir,
I have the honor to recommend that Capt Lyman Bridges, of Bridges Battery Ills Light Arty be brevetted Major, in accordance with act of Congress, as published in Genl Order, War Dept, No. 73, Current Series, for gallant and meritorious conduct, at the battles of "Chicamauga", Sept 19th and 20th 1863.
His Battery served with my Brigade, and did signal service, in both engagements. On the 19th it drove the rebel batteries from the field with heavy loss, after an action of three hours.
On the 20th, the Battery moved with my brigade, to the Extreme left and front of the 14th Army Corps, took four positions, by my orders, and remained upon the field, checking the enemy, until two regiments of my brigade, which were in a very critical
position, could be withdrawn, and saved from capture.
Captain Bridges maintained his position, until the line upon my right, had fallen back, and he was ordered by me to retire to another position.
Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servant
