Respected Sir,
I make bold, considering the friendship you have always manifested for me, to ask your assistance in procuring for me a commission in the Regular Army I consider my self equal to the task, and wish to make the profession of arms a life-long profession. A request from you to His Excellency the President, will I know secure what I wish, and by so doing you will confer a favor that will never be forgotten by your young friend and the early friend and playmate of your own loved son.
