Sir
Having voted the "Union ticket the last two elections, and this county having gone "Democratic" has thrown me out of a good situation in the Circuit Clerks office of this County, and being poor have to make a living for myself & wife, has caused me to apply through Mr. Trumbull for a situation in the Government service. I would prefer either a mail agency or Government Agent on some lower Mississippi boat, and would be much gratified if you would write to President Lincoln and Mr Trumbull upon the subject
I have written to Mr. Trumbull upon the subject, and also enclosed to him a letter from Judge Gillispie, who is now in Springfield, and if you wish, you can see him and confer
with him upon the subject.
Please let me hear from you upon the subject at your earliest convenience, if it is not too much trouble
Yours respectfully
Alfred J Lusk
