Gov R. Yates

Dr Sir

I Enclose you a letter from my son he was wounded in both legs at Stone River Dec 1862 while Gallantly fighting for his Country he has lain over one year in Hospital & was getting about to injoy the fresh air

It is Extremely hard to subject him to the rigerous Confinement of which he complains Can nothing be done for him

Is this the return for all he has suffered is not one year enough must he be imprisioned for Fighting Bleeding for his Country

Govenor we have allways looked up to you as the Soldiers friend. Can you has any body the power to relieve him

I look wishfully to you

Loyally yours

Thomas Carpenter

I write with Mr. Carpenter in soliciting such relief as is possible and expedient to grant. I have know Mr. Carpenter for years, and during this entire war he has been a model of energy and patriotism in the cause of the Union. He has sent two sons to the war, and recruited more than two hundred men without compensation of any kind, and his plea in behalf of his son is justly entitled to your humane consideration.

I hope it may be in your

power to serve him, and you may rely upon his grateful appreciation. Let me renew to you assurances of faithful Consideration
