To His Excellency,

Governor Yates,

Sir:

I have had the honor to receive your communication of the 26th inst. calling my attention to the enclosed letter of Mr Caspar Nolte, to Hon Francis A. Hoffmann. In reply I have the honor to state that this case had already been brought to my notice, and that the proper steps were promptly taken to secure a thorough investigation of the same.
