Head Qrts. 1st Cavalry Brigade La Grange Tenn. Feby 19th 1863.

Hon. Richard Yates Governor of the State of Ills.

Dear Brother

I take pleasure in introducing to you my friend Lieut Beck. Mr Beck has been Adjutant of our Regt. (6th Ills Cavalry) His health not permiting him to be of benefit to the service, he has through the advice of Physicians resigned his position in the Army - Mr Beck has used his influence for me to succeed him in Office, therefore I feel under obligations to him on this account, but, not withstanding this, I feel that I speak the sentiment of the men of the Regt. in recommending Mr Beck to you not only as a true and loyal soldier, but, as a man worthy of confidence, and well calculated to fill any position in business with which he may be entrusted, Any favor you can do for him will not only be appreciated by himself, but by the Regt. which regretingly part with him -

Your Brother Will Yates

Will Yates. 6th Ill. Cav.

La Grange Tenn Feby 19 1863.

Recomending Wm H. Beck formerly Adjt 6th Ill Cav. hopes the Governor will do something for him.
