Springfield Feby 20 1863
Dear Sir
I am reliably informed that J Thomas Burr, Adjutant of the 96th Ohio Regiment, of Ohio Volunteers, has been & is yet very sick of typhoid fever, accompanied with congestion of the Lungs. His mother of whom he is an only son, desires to obtain his discharge, if he cannot be parolled, so that he may go home & receive her care & attentions in his Sickness. I therefore specially request you to procure his discharge, unless he himself positively declines to accept a discharge. You will please inform me at your earliest convenience what is done in this matter.
