Dear Sir

I herewith send My application to the Sect of War for Authority to raise & Command a regiment of Colored Soldiers which I wish you to approve and forward with your recommendation as early as practicable I desire to state that I left the Service as Lt Col of the 18th Reg on account of a difficulty


with Col Lawler and from a conviction that we could not Serve peacably together. I have always been and am now not only willing but anxious to serve my country in any capacity. I hope my application will meet your favor and that you will recommend it to the secretary. Would be pleased to hear from you soon.
