U.S. General Hospital

Mound City Illinois,

April 1st 1863

Gov. Yates

Dear Sir

I take this opportunity of writing you a few lines relating to my case and situation here

I came here sick on the 25th of Nov/62 and have been convalescent ever since the 15th of jun/63. and I am no better than when I first became convalescent. I wish to find out why they keep a man here so long without discharging him when he is not fit for the service of the field if I am not fit for the Army I wish to be at home for my

family are in need of what little help I can afford them.

By hoping that you care for the gallant Soldier and look after his welfare.

I remain your Humble Servant
