Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 31st ult. requesting the transfer of James Roberts Co "D" 118 Regt. Ills. Inft. to the General Hospital Quincy Ills. In reply would say that he has not as yet been in this hospital the necessary length of time required by late orders and instructions relative to the transfer of Soldiers to hospitals in their respective States, and which also requires that they shall be sent in squads of fifty and one hundred in charge of a Medical Officer. From instructions just received from Asst Surgeon Genl. R. C. Wood. St Louis, individual


transfers cannot as formerly be made.
