Hyde Park, Ills

April 6th 1863.

Sir.

Being ordered to join the army of Cumberland & wishing to take Charles H. Roland as my aid de camp with me, I address my self to your Excellency, asking you to commission him as Lieutenant of Volunteers of Ills. By doing so you will confer a favour on me. As to the qualifications of Mr Roland as a military man & a gentleman, I am sure that the service will gain by his appointment.
