To Hon S A Hurlburt

Dear Sir

I have offered my services to Gov. Yates as an instructor of Tactics, and have refered to you as to my character only.

If you can see him please say what you can in my favor, on the basis that I am a graduate of the Military University at Norwich Vermont. Recd instructions from Capt Alden Partridge & Gen T. B. Ransom. I afterwards taught three years in a military school in N.C. and one year in the Norwich University Vt. having full charge of the Military departments I was then considered number one.

We have two fine Cos raised here. I soon will have a third besides the one already sent off. These I am drilling.

We are anticipating [a real call.?] in a few days.

Respectfully Yours

S M Preston
