Description

Governor Henry Horner (1933-1940) was elected in 1932 and reelected in 1936; however, he died in office during the third year of his second term. Horner was committed to cleaning up corruption in the Chicago-run Democratic Party machine. An expert on Abraham Lincoln, Horner was an avid collector of Lincoln artifacts and papers. His huge collection of Lincolniana became the foundation of the Illinois State Historical Library and its successor institution, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. Governor Horner also holds the honor of being Illinois's first Jewish governor.

Items in this collection include portraits of Governor Horner, images from President Franklin D. Roosevelt visiting Chicago, and several pictures of the 1937 Ohio River Flood.
