Not having an opportunity to see you without taking your time from more important matters I take this way of asking you for an appointment in some capacity under your orders. I would not do so but from the fact that I need it for my family's sake & when I tell you that the fact of my supporting you in Chicago against Judd has prevented my receiving an appointment from Pres Lincoln - also, our City has not received its fair quota of appointments in & during & for this war -

I trust you will take this into consideration & let me hear from you. I might be of use as purchasing agt, Secret service, pay master, Quarter Master or Commissary -
