Brigadier General

Julius White US. Vols.

Comdg Draft Rendv. &c.

Springfield Ills.

General:

I regret to learn that a number of soldiers belonging to three years Regiments recently returned to Camp Butler and awaiting Muster out on expiration of term of service, have committed unlawful acts of violence upon private property and disturbed the peace of the City

I would respectfully and earnestly request the enforcement of vigorous measures to prevent the recurrence of such scenes

and that a sufficient military force may be held at hand to meet requisition of the civil authorities should they find it necessary to call for aid to enforce the laws & preserve the public peace.

Very Respectfully

Richd. Yates
