With J.B. McCown letter 5/13/64
Head Quarters Draft Rendezvous, Springfield, Illinois. May 14th 1864
Sir
in accordance with the request of Your Excellency dated yesterday, I made preparation to proceed to Vandalia for the purpose of repressing the outbreak against the peace and laws at that place - I applied to Lt. Col. James Oakes A. A. P. M. Genl who placed at my disposal three Regiments of Infantry.
Shortly afterward I received from Col. McCown commanding the 63rd Ills Infantry stationed at Centralia, a dispatch of which the enclosed is a copy -
I have the honor therefore to report that the disturbance is at an end.
I am Very Respectfully Your Obdt Servt
