Hon Richd Yates
DrSir Enclosed find a few names, with whom you are acquainted reccommending our Townsman, Dr E. R. Roe to an appointment in the Hovey Regiment. We could get every man in our Town to sign it but we thought to send only a few leading men whom you personally know. The soul and spirit with which Dr. Roe has entered into this contest has endeared him to all true patriots in this portion of the country. The energy and skill he manifests
in military drill, as exhibited in naming his company "Home Guards" point him out as an efficient and energetic military man. It would give very great satisfaction to our people here to see him appointed a field officer of the Hovey Regiment.
As you are well acquainted with the Doctor's ability and energy, may we not hope it will be consistent with your feelings to appoint him?
Yours truly
J. H. Wilkizer
