Chicago July 29. 1861
Hon. Richard Yates
Governor of the State of Illinois
Springfield
Dear Sir: Julius White Esq. of this City with several other influential friends in this City and vicinity is actively engaged in organizing a first class Regiment for service during the war. From what I know of the men engaged in the movement I confident the Regiment will be in all respects one which will do honor to our State and I hope you will be so situated that they can be accepted and mustered at once into service
Now is a time when our Country needs men and good men and without intending any disparagement to the Regiments already in the field I can assure you from personal knowledge that so far as I have any right to an opinion of military men or matters this proposed organization will contain the best elements which yet been turned out for the defense of our country.
Yours Truly
H.W. Blodgett
Chicago Ill.
Judge H. W. Blodgett.
