His Excellency, Richard Yates

Govenor of Illinois, &c. Dear Sir,

I had proposed seeing you this morning, but finding your time so fully occupied have felt it would be a kindness not to trouble you. would therefore say that if in making your various appointments, you have a place for a prompt, thorough and efficient business man, I believe I could discharge the duties of such position to your entire satisfaction

In regard to my business capacity and qualafications, would beg leave to refer you to Hon J. S. Rumsey, J. H. Dunham Esq. J. V. Farwell Esq. and other prominent business men of Chicago. Am also happy to refer you to Col. S. M. Willson of your staff.
