Respected Sir i take the present opertuny to ask you your advise My son William H. Higgs of Co I 115 Regment illinois Vol died on the 21 of March Last since then i have gott his clothing from the Horspitle i fiend in his Pocket Book a note on the Captan for Forty dollers My Son gave him the money to take car of Since My Sons deth i have Rote to Captan J. A. Rutherferd of Co I 115 Reg illinois Vol for the Money he has promesed to send it to mee butt he has not dun So I have a Sick Wife and I ham cripple my self with a large famley i
ham needing the money very bad my poor son was our chefe suport i have not a bett of bread for my Famley at this present tim i don't think it is rite. for the captan to keep that money back wich my poor son as fort so hard for i will be truly thankfull to you if you will be so kind to send mee your advise and how i can redeam it i remain your true and humble servant

His son died in hospital was a member of Co I 115th Regt. His clothes were returned and a note signed by the Capt of Company for forty dollars. His family are in a destitute condition. Wishes Gov to obtain money
