Dear Sir

The friends of Mr. William R. Moore are circulating a petition to have him discharged. I am satisfied with the facts set up in the petition. Moore's family are in a desperate condition and if you can do anything to assist in getting him discharged it would be an act of humanity as I am Satisfied the government would not detain him on the facts presented to the proper department. It strikes me that you might forward this Petition on with it [illegible], the Secty of War, and get him discharged if that could not be done and he could get a furlough for a few months, it would be of great benefit and his Phisician thinks might restore him entirely. Anything you may do to forward a the object of the Petitioners will be a special favor to your old Friend

Please advise me what you think about the matter upon receipt of this as his friends are very anxious to take some course to get him home as they believe that and that only will Save his life

They are all truly loyal and have no other motive in [illegible.]
