Governor of Ill.
Sir:
I omitted to mention, in my communication of yesterday, that I submitted the question of U.S. officers recruiting in Illinois for the benefit of Erie Co. A.M. to the authorities at Washington for their prompt decision, as requested in your letter of the 9th inst. Please find copy of telegram enclosed. I have also forwarded a copy of your Excellency's order of Aug 6th, and copies of the communications of Capt. James, Prov. Mar. 1st Dist. Chicago, with an earnest plea for a military order that shall meet
the case. The dispatch was sent early on yesterday, & I shall expect an answer today, which, if not sent to you direct, shall be at once communicated to you.
I also have the honor to transmit herewith a list of the Pro. Marshals in Ill. with Hd Qrs. as requested in your letter of last evening.
