Dear Cousin I take the present opportunity of droping you a few lines to let you know that I am well, and hope this will find you enjoying the same great blessing Cousin I am sorry to say to you that I was made A prisoner of war last summer at the capture of Fort Morgan which was taken the 23rd of August last, I was sent from there to New Orleans remained there some 3 weeks and sent to the above mentioned It is rumored that we will leave here soon but I cant tell myself this is a very healthy place and good quarters Dear Cousin you will oblige me very much by sending me some $10.00 or 15.00 in money and if ever I can do anything for you I will take pleasure in doing so. please answer this soon Direct to me as above A prisoner of war Co, B, 1st Tenn Arty care of Lt McKim Provost Marshall of Governors Island my best regards to your family I will come to a close hoping to hear from you soon nomore only I remain your most affectionate and Loving cousin until Death
