To his excellency Governer Yates-
Dr Sir from your acquaintance in the past time + your friendship towards me - I take the liberty to write you a few lines I want you to do me a favour if you can my son Benjaminn Franklin Thompsin left home in my absence went to Jacksonvill hiered (?) to someone as a subscitute was sworn into the service + is now in Camp Butler he was 17 years old the 25 day of last Sept
I want my boy released if it is possible + consistent I dont know But
the he is serving for a sneak that ought to be in the sercvis himself- I had started my boy to School I want him to go to school this winter he is a fine boy to work but has not much schooling he is a stout boy except his lungs he had spell of congestion of the lungs last spring + was very bad for a short time- I am satisfyd that he is too yong for the servis + I therefere want to get him released + if you can aid me in that matter I will take it as a lasting favour I am sorrow to have to trouble you but you must excuse me I remain as ever your friend + humble servent R Yates
